White & Case settles with SPAC after derailed $480 mln deal

  • White & Case and Colonnade Acquisition Corp II have “amically resolved” disputes, the filing says
  • Law firm sued for more than $8.2 million in legal fees

(Reuters) – Law firm White & Case has quickly ended a lawsuit seeking legal fees from a special purpose acquisition company whose plans for a $480 million merger fizzled.

White & Case, which last week sued former SPAC client Colonnade Acquisition Corp II and its directors in New York state court for more than $8.2 million, said in a Friday filing the parties “have amicably resolved their disputes.”

Dechert law firm asks judge to toss reporter’s hack-and-leak lawsuit

(Reuters) – Law firm Dechert asked a US judge to throw out a former Wall Street Journal reporter’s lawsuit accusing the firm of working with mercenary hackers to leak private emails and get him fired from his job.

Dechert argued in a Washington, DC, federal court filing late Friday that the lawsuit was untimely because it relates to events that occurred more than five years ago. The complaint by reporter Jay Solomon also does not show that Dechert was responsible for the harm he faced, the firm said.

The NLRB Finds Unlawful Confidentiality and Non-Disparagement Provisions in Severance Agreements: Non-Disparagement, Non-Disclosure, Non-Allowed

On February 21, 2023, the National Labor Relations Board (“NLRB” or “Board”) continued its aggressive application of the National Labor Relations Act (“Act” or “NLRA”) to workplaces without union representation and lessened the value of severance agreements for all employers by finding it unlawful for an employer to merely proffer a severance agreement that includes broad non-disparagement and confidentiality provisions to an employee. in Mclaren Macomb, the Board held that a severance agreement that contained a confidentiality clause and a non-disparagement clause was unlawful because, in the Board’s view, these provisions impermissibly infringe on employees’ rights under the Act. …
