VICTORIA — British Columbia has tabled changes to a law that would require people or companies to explain how they obtained their cash, fancy homes and luxury cars if there’s a suspicion they came from criminal activity.

The government says the creation of unexplained wealth orders will help prevent money laundering by those who hide assets with family members or associates.

If there is reason to suspect property was acquired through crime and the person does not appear to have sufficient income to own what they have, a BC Supreme Court judge could require

More photos, video released of suspect in assault outside Winnipeg law courts

Winnipeg police have released more photos and a video of a suspect wanted after a woman was assaulted outside the Law Courts Building.

The 20-year-old victim was walking from St. Mary Avenue and Kennedy Street to the courthouse around 5:45 am March 17 when police have said a man began to follow her.

Missing Largo lawyer Steve Cozzi’s family, friends gather for vigil

st. PETERSBURG — Through the surge of phone calls and texts following the disappearance of Pinellas County attorney Steven Cozzi, Michael Steven Montgomery said he’s felt like he’s met his husband a second time.

Montgomery had heard stories in those calls about Cozzi, he had not before his husband went missing. He said even while he was waiting for answers on what happened to his husband, learning more about Cozzi had been a gift.

Ex-prosecutor warns Trump to get a new lawyer over potential “conflict of interest” in Stormy case

Stormy Daniels, whose hush-money payment is at the center of the ongoing Manhattan investigation into former President Donald Trump, handed over communications between her and Trump’s lawyer to District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office on Wednesday, according to CNN.

The communications between her and Joe Tacopina are said to date back to 2018, when Daniels was seeking legal representation. Her lawyer, Clark Brewster, said Daniels had disclosed confidential information to Tacopina about her situation involving the former president.

The deadly shooting in a Nashville grade school that left three nine-year old students and three adult staff members dead has sparked calls in Tennessee for what’s called a red-flag law, with advocates suggesting that may have prevented the attack.
