Memphis commit Mikey Williams’ attorney releases statement on arrest

On Friday, the high school basketball world was rocked by the news that Memphis committed Mikey Williams had been arrested on five charges of assault with a deadly weapon on Thursday afternoon.

Ranked No. 17 overall in the class of 2023 by 247Sports.com, the 6-foot-3 combo guard has been released on $50.00o bail and is awaiting an April 20th court appearance.

Friday night, 247Sports acquired a release from Williams attorney Troy P. Owens Jr. claiming his client’s innocence and intention to comply with the investigation into his arrest.

“I have reviewed information published by the San Diego County Sherriff’s Department, as well as multiple other news outlets. The information reveals that yesterday’s arrest stems from a March 27, 2023 altercation at a home in Jamul that Mr. Williams maintained as a residence. This altercation was initiated by several uninvited individuals entering the house and causing a disturbance. During the aftermath of this disturbance, there were reports of shots being fired. Mr. Williams is alleged to match the description of the shooter. As a result, a search warrant was executed at home and Mr. Williams was arrested. He has posted bonds and looks forward to addressing allegations against him using the established procedures in our justice system.

While this case has received significant attention in the last 24 hours, we ask that people appreciate the fact that Mr. Williams is an 18-year-old high school student. Harassment, threats, or any other behavior of that sort is unwarranted. We are aware of several narratives being advanced online that are not factual and are designed to humiliate Mr. Williams. We are confident that the truth will come to light.

Mr. Williams is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. He maintains his innocence and will cooperate with the criminal process.”

Stay tuned to 247Sports for any developments in Williams’ case.
